Mid Season update
There haven't been any racing updates
lately, and only two race reports from me for all of 2006. The
short answer is that my right hand just doesn't have enough flexion
backwards to turn the throttle full in one turn, or to trailbrake.
It isn't painful, the scar tissue around the scaphoid pin stops my
hand from moving back any further. After surgury and a cast for 8
weeks, I went to physical therapy three times a week for months
and months, but it didn't help much.
I got a bunch of metal out. The rod that was put in my right
leg in 2003 (scroll down),
and the plate that was put in my collarbone in 2005. That rod looks a lot
bigger sitting on the table than in the x-rays....
I did have my hand doc come in while I was knocked out
and manipulate my hand to break up scar tissue. It helped a lot, I
can use my hand and wrist much more, but it isn't enough for racing.
He is going to do it again in a month, so I'm keeping my fingers
crossed.
So it has been over a year since I have really been able to race.
I think about quitting every weekend. It's awful going to the track
for two and three days to sell tires and watch the races when you
want to be out there. What's worse though is actually being out
there: I have been 5 seconds slower at every track I have ridden
this year, consistently. Because of my hand, and because I also have
a demon in my bike. I dynoed my bike and it made a whopping 38 HP
with a flat spot at 8-10k RPM. I mean a complete dead spot.
THAT was a wiring harness. Then I got a big dent in my pipe,
repaired it, still the same. Played with jetting, replaced the
entire engine, and still a flat spot. Throttle pinned at 9k
and the bike will not speed up. At momentum tracks it isn't SO bad,
but at tight tracks it is hell.
So, I am not posting any of the weekends I try to race at or much
else for that matter, since nothing is happening but me going home
frustrated. I hope this will all change
soon.
